Lottery.ca is an independent information website about Canadian lotteries, owned and operated by PWR Group Inc., a company based in Toronto, Ontario. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site, why, and the choices you have. We follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
The short version
- You don’t need an account, and we don’t ask for your name or other personal details to use the site. We only ask for your email address if you sign up for email alerts.
- We don’t sell or rent personal information to anyone.
- We don’t sell lottery tickets or take bets. When you buy a ticket, you do it on the lottery or charity’s own website, under their privacy policy.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, receives basic technical information when your browser requests a page: your IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the date and time. Cloudflare uses this to deliver the site and protect it from attacks and abuse, and may set a short-lived security cookie for that purpose. This information is handled under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
To understand how many people visit and which pages are popular, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It counts page views without cookies and without collecting visitors’ personal information, and we only see totals, such as page views by page, country and device type. We don’t use advertising cookies, and if we add advertising or other analytics in the future, we’ll update this policy before doing so.
Information stored on your own device
Some pages remember simple preferences, such as the province filter on the hospital lotteries page. This is saved in your browser’s local storage, never sent to us, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
Logos and images from other websites
Hospital and charity lottery logos are loaded directly from each lottery’s official website. When your browser loads one of those images, that website receives the standard technical information described above. We ask browsers not to tell those sites which Lottery.ca page you were on.
Email alerts
If you sign up for email alerts, we collect your email address and the alerts you choose (for example, Lotto Max results or hospital lottery deadlines in your province). We use them only to send those alerts. We send a confirmation email first and add you only after you click the link in it. Every alert includes a link to unsubscribe at any time.
Our email provider, Brevo, stores your address and sends the emails on our behalf, and records basic delivery information such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked. Brevo is based in France, so this information may be stored outside Canada. See Brevo’s privacy policy. We never sell or rent your email address.
If you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message. We use it only to respond to you, and we keep it only as long as needed for that purpose.
Links to other websites
Lottery.ca links to lottery operators, charities and other websites. Some of these links may be affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you make a purchase or sign up, at no extra cost to you. Once you leave Lottery.ca, the other website’s privacy policy applies, and we aren’t responsible for its practices.
Children
Lottery.ca is intended for adults. You must be of legal age in your province to buy lottery tickets (18 or 19, depending on where you live). We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
Where information is stored
Our hosting provider operates servers around the world, so technical information may be processed outside Canada, where it may be subject to the laws of those countries.
Your choices and rights
Under Canadian privacy law, you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and withdraw consent. Because we collect so little, we may not hold any information that identifies you. To make a request or ask a question, email info@lottery.ca. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
